Nothing beats a session up in the mountains. Especially, in Mt. Baldy! We have been shooting here for the past 7 years and it never gets old. Whether it’s a family, maternity or an engagement session, we always looks forward driving up to our local mountain to explore. Our favorite part is that many of our clients have never been to Mt. Baldy so when they meet us out there for the first time, they are always in such awe of how cute the little mountain town is. We always recommend eating at the Mt. Baldy Lodge after your session. Their chili and burgers are so good and always hits the spot! If its a cold evening, get a hot chocolate or a glass of wine and enjoy the fireplace inside. It’s so cozy!
Justine and Steven reached out to us to for a family session and were open to any location that we had in mind, except for the beach since they took family photos there the year before. After sending some suggestions, Mt. Baldy was the pick for this beautiful family and we were not mad about it! Fast forward to the day of their session, we told them to meet us at the Mt. Baldy Lodge because after that point the reception gets lost. From there, they followed us up the mountain and we took them to two locations we love to shoot at. The weather turned out to be perfect- not too hot or too cold and the sun glowed through the valley so beautifully!
When it comes to family sessions, we love to start off by letting our families know what to expect and how we shoot. We are very candid, fun and in-the-moment photographers so proper formal posing is not our thing. Bringing young children in the mix can be a challenge at times but honestly it’s so much fun. I used to be a preschool teacher and Behavior Therapist for children on the Autism Spectrum so playing and being around kids comes so natural to me. It honestly makes my heart so happy when I can make children laugh and feel comfortable around us. Since our style is very candid, we like to prompt and create moments that will look so natural and fun. With young children, we don’t expect them to sit in one spot and smile directly at the camera the whole time. So we always try to make it as fun as possible and basically follow their lead. With the Vazquez family, they were very open to exploring the area so letting their little boy play with rocks, sticks and their cute pup, Ziggy, really helped capture those raw and intimate moments between all of them.
Towards the end of the session, their little boy started to get a little bored so I let him take a photo of his Mom and Dad with our camera- with our help of course :). We think he nailed the shot!
Thank you Vazquez family for letting us capture your beautiful family!
